8.2 is not good mileage...period. The worst I have gotten pulling a 30' 5th wheel into a 30mph headwind was 10.25 mpg.
Your truck needs to be checked out.
How can you make a statement like that when you don't know anything about what hes towing or what hes towing with? Glad that theres experts that know theses things so we can have our trucks checked out when theres nothing wrong with them.If you don't know something its ok . Its great that the worst mileage you got was 10.25 mpg but you dont know what hes towing or not.
Well...mainly from experince, mainly from multiple users pulling max loads in different terrians. To put it simply...I would trade mine in if that was the expected milage reguardless of what rated towing capacity I was pulling. Your blanket statement that
"8.2 isn't bad if your towing " is quite simply...wrong.
Thanks for your input though.
well, I pull a 30' fth, wieghing in at 16,000lbs, at usually 125kph, the truck is a 04' crew cab dually with the edge attitude, and staight piped. forgot to add it's an auto.
The only difference between you and I is the dually, the edge, the pipes. Mine is a 350 srw stock...do you think maybe that the mods are affecting your milage?

I quess your saying if anybody gets 8.2 mpg towing theres must be something wrong with the truck period. Wow hope alot of people don't see this post pulling that 40' fiver through the mountians. They will think somethings wrong with it and trade it.....Wait I never expected to get that .......Wait I have got that before hmmmmmmmm maybe its new truck time.
Have to agree with Garagedoc on this. while it's possible to get 8mpg it would take some extreme conditions to do so IMO. For comparison, I get 14 mpg towing 8000 lb camper around the northeast. 18 - 20 mpg empty.
8mpg, not bad. That is what I get on my 04 crew short box FX4. The only thing I am towing is my *** to work and back. Ther must be a hole in my tank.....................
I do beleive I got this correct when I said your truck needs to be checked out, considering the mods...yep it needs to be checked out. Well, I am aware of 36' pulling through the moutians..12.5MPG.
Firesoutmatt, don't get so bent, IMO and experince with many of these trucks and different loads...8.2 is not good milage and should not be expected and checking one's truck out does not mean...run to the dealer. An operator should be aware of all variables at all times, air pressure, filters, quality of fuel, hubs locked, etc. If your happy with 8.2 and think that's great milage...drive to your hearts content but I most certainly woould make changes if it was mine.
2005' 6.0PSD SC Dually, using tow/haul mode, 4.10:1 gears, 35' 5th wheel 12K lbs., round trip had 20mph headwind one way, no wind the other way. 50-55mph, a couple of hills, 7.66 mpg!!! Runs like a banchee but what crappy mileage. Getting 14.5mpg non-towing IF I drive the entire tank like aunt bee. 13mpg driving like hell. Man I like the truck but so many weird problems.
