I do beleive I got this correct when I said your truck needs to be checked out, considering the mods...yep it needs to be checked out. Well, I am aware of 36' pulling through the moutians..12.5MPG.
Firesoutmatt, don't get so bent, IMO and experince with many of these trucks and different loads...8.2 is not good milage and should not be expected and checking one's truck out does not mean...run to the dealer. An operator should be aware of all variables at all times, air pressure, filters, quality of fuel, hubs locked, etc. If your happy with 8.2 and think that's great milage...drive to your hearts content but I most certainly woould make changes if it was mine.
The only point I was trying to make is we didn't have all the variables from his first post and to say it was wrong was wrong lol. Some people post on here just to hear someone agree with them and not actually looking for a way to fix it. I bet hes been to a dealer and they told him that was normal mileage for his conditions.8.2 is not good mileage but we didn't know any of his info to make that decision then. period If he really wanted info on mileage all he had to do was a search on that subject and he would have found out what he didn't want to know.Soooooo back to my orignal post /Sooooooooooo many things effect mileage .8.2 isn't bad if your towing or hauling heavy loads.More info in would get more info out
I know I don't get over 10mpg when I'm towing but thats because I'm pulling a lot more weight than most.I've been as low as 7.5mpg so 8.2mpg doesn't mean there something wrong with my truck. For you 8.2 is bad but we didnt have any info to know that was bad for him. period
My truck is a '04 cc drw auto with the 6.0. I pull a 14,000 horse trailer and sometimes pull a 7,000 camping trailer. I gotten 10mpg with both trailers hooked up, driving around 70 to 75. I get around 16 empty. I agree the trucks should get better mileage I think that its something with the way Ford sets up the computer. One day there'll be another flash unleashing the good fuel mileage.
firesoutmatt, I stand by my original opinion...it proved correct and there was no "we" . My opionion is just that...mine. I certainly do not need any help in articulating my opinion and determing if I have all the variables. I issued a statement, it was not in conjunction with yours. "8.2 isn't bad if your towing " can not be arbitrarily applied to all towing but rather " 8.2 is bad if your towing " since my research shows that 8.2 towing is more uncommon. Thanks again for your input...but its really not needed.
Screwowner: If I understand your post , you are pulling a thirty foot fifth wheel that I assume is about 11 ft high an 8.5 ft wide,(93.5 sq. ft of frontal area) at 125 kph or 78 mph. You have a 4.10 rear axle ratio, so you must be turning 24-2500 rpm at that speed. What kind of mileage were you expecting? Try keeping the revs under 2000 rpm and see what happens.
8.2mpg does suck. I have no mods, no towing, no racing, I have gone through all scenarios and nothing changes......... I guess I should trade it in for a real truck....
8.2 seems a little low to me, The lowest I've gotten is high 11's when pulling cargo trailer filled with 4 Harleys and camping gear. Even in the mountains. Closer to 14 when pulling a load on flat ground. Hope you figure out what is going on. Good luck!
you guys are scareing me. I'm ready to buy a new truck but I'm about to change my mind. I get 11 mpg pulling 15000 pounds with my old worn out 89 F-350 diesel. I might half to go over to the dark side and get a cummins but I just can't bring myself to own a dodge.

Don't give in to the Dodge. This is only one person that posted 8.2mpg and he didn't give enough info to say what his problem may be.The 05 6.0 is getting the best mileage I ever got with a powerstroke .My 01 was around 12-16 mpg empty and 8-11mpg towing .I havn't towed with the 05 yet but empty is around 18-19mpg.
sorry guys, well i have 3:73's with stock rubber, and yes it's 11' high and 8.5' wide but it's a v-nose, tande axle. and i just got it reflashed today, and they also changed the egr valve
