Unhappy bent rim????

04 FX4 owner here. I have the 18in aluminum rims. About 3-4 weeks ago, I skidded in the snow, and hit a curb pretty hard. No damage to the truck. I've had to add air to the front passenger tire about once a week since then, looks like a very very slow leak. I'm going to have it checked next week when I get the oil changed at the dealer. Any chance I did damage to the rim itself???

Like I said, leak is extremely slow, never even went close tobeing flat, just I can notice the difference after 5-6 days. Thanks for your help.

Have you tried spraying dish soap on the tire?? This should indicate any leak.. I'd also check the tread for any nails or screws... You may have already done this, but didn't mention it..

Good Luck,

Russ

There are shops out there that specialize in rim repair. They might be able to tell you if its truly bent. You might just want to have any garage dismount and remount the tire. It could be that the bead isnt sitting quite right, and you have a slow leak.

If you hit a curb, it is very possible you just need to bring it in and have the bead broken and reseated. Transmission fluid really works good on for getting tires to seal on aluminum rims. Have them balance the tire to, alot of times, you can tell if the rim is bent by putting it on the balancing machine, as it will wobble.

Is it on the front or rear? If front you should know if it is bent, vibration while driving at higher speeds.....

Damage to the rim will be visable. deep gouges, metal missing. the wheel is aluminum so you won't be able to bend it with out there being signs of damage. run your finger around the lip! Air loss is very common. There is a long and deep math formula for air loss through the rubber. Bottom line = bigger tires will lose more air faster, but avg is 1 to 3 psi per month. as fordruss said above. I would remove the tire and look for a nail or screw.
