Hey everyone need some advice. It was pouring down rain yesterday and i went to my truck to get some books out of the back seat and i notice rain all down my brand new leather seats and in the very top of my headliner. Thank god it just started and i could dry it all up before it stained the headliner. ne way i need to know do yall think it is the rear window leaking or just the 3rd brake light since the rain comes in only at the very top center. Thanks for all yalls advice....
Mine is going in for a new gasket kit around the rear window. The third brake light was leaking as well and was replaced.
Incidentally, the rattle that seemed to be coming from the bed was diagnosed as the rear window. A large number of F-150's do not have enough rubber between the glass and the frame.
It sounds like the 3rd brake light issue. I had to have the gasket replaced around my rear slider. It took Ford a month to get it in stock. All noise is gone now. You can find TSBs relating to both issues in the 2004-5 Forum sticky at the top of the page.
Please check for rust all over the inside of your cab, under the carpet, around the bolts holding front and rear seats on, tilt the back seats a little and look behind, check for squishy puddles under the back seat and in the wells where the front seats sit on their tracks, check UP under your seat with a flashlight and look at the springs and other metal, check the wiring area under the plastic skid plates on the edges of the floor, check the brake pedal rod, steering column, etc. etc. I mean really look hard with a flashlight all up under everything, lift your carpet up as much as you can (you will need to bend and lay a lot!)
Why? I bought an '04 SC in November (last year), and after heavy rain (had it 3 days) the cab flooded in puddles all over and then I really started looking and holy cow that sucker was RUSTED!! I took it back and got the song and dance about we'll replace the seats (front and rear), the carpet, and some bolts....I said NO WAY! That is NOT "normal warranty repair" take it back and give me a new one! They tried a few more days, and after getting a lawyer and having the president of our bank (happens to be my Uncle) call and give them heck, I got a Reacquired Vehicle offer...I replaced the rusbucket with an '05 5.4 Fx4 SC.........
It so happened that the first truck had been sitting on their lot from March-November '04 and went through all of that "weather" we had, including Hurricane Ivan.......so I could have probably sued the heck out of them because of the saltwater damage, but I'm satisfied with my new truck
Take care and I sure hope yours isn't as rusted as mine was. All because of that cab brake light seal!
