First of all, thanks to everyone here for your advice for my new truck, very nice of you all.
I just finished the transaction on my 02 F-250 LB 2x4 7.3L PSD. This is my first truck of any kind, as well as my first diesel. Mainly I wanted diesel because of the kind of miles I am going to put on it, and the longevity of the PSD trucks. I am going to tow a bit, but frankly not enough to warrant the PSD, but once I heard it, I wanted it! I was looking for probably 6 months or more, and finally found the truck from the local dealer where they had it on the lot. I was suprised to see a 7.3, and after consulting these forums I was convinced to get the truck w/ 7.3 and with 57k miles on it. I comprimised by not getting a 4x4 in order to stay in my price range and get a clean truck w/ the 7.3 and reasonable miles with the extended cab and long bed. But I really dont need 4x4.
I had it checked out from a mech, carfax, had a friend drive, and put a couple days worth of miles on it: all clean, sans some minor issues that I had the dealer fix. I am unable to verify the service history though. I took it in for the 60k service (on my dime) right away so if there was some high $$ issue, I could give em hell because the truck was bought the day before. Looks like no issues other than the OD light (fixed from dealer $200: n/c to me).
The owners manuals were missing but I found them, and the diesel supplement on the web here: 9497faq/download/2002/
Thanks again everyone for the help! Here is a picture (I posted before).
Hey, Just trying to get some info so as to make a well informed decision. I am considering buying a 1996 Ford F250. It is 4X4 reg.cab, and is a stroker with auto with OD tranny, and 4.11 gears. I have do not do a great deal of heavy towing and hauling, but when I want to my 1/2 ton Chevy can't hold the load. However, I have never owned a diesel before, have always thought I would want one, but am concerned about expensive upkeep. Does maintenance on a diesel cost a lot more than a gasser. How much oil does this truck hold, and how often do you have to change it? And are there any hidden maintenance costs associated that I am not aware of. Any reply on this would be very beneficial in making this big decision! Thanks
Steve
