I installed a Pro-comp 6in. suspension lift, on my 1980 F-150. The camber is off, so I take it to an alignment shop, and they tell me they have to chissel out my old cams, and install new ones. This for a total of $300.
How do you go about changing those cams? I want to do this myself, and then just have them do a normal $75 alignment. I have air tools, a ball joint press, soon I will have a torch if that would work. Any help would be appreciated, because I can't justify giving those people $300 if I can do it myself.
Same problem. I put a 6 inch superlift in a 91. They also told me of this 300 dollar bill. I went and payed them $60 to tell me how many degrees it was off (the bushings that you buy are in degrees). After they told me the amount for each side I went to the dealer and bought some. After thet it's as easy as following a Chilton's manual.
Last year I installed new springs on the front of my Bronco. The springs came with new bushings which I installed. I got the old ones out by loosening the nut on the ball joint. Screwing the nut all the way to the end and giving the nut a couple of hard wacks with a hammer. The bushings popped right out.(I kept spraying them with WD-40 for about a week prior)
3 months later I decided to install a 4" lift kit and decided to take it in to a 4X4 shop to have the alignment done. The first thing the kid who was working on my truck did was take an air chisel to the bushing and totaly destroyed it and the ball joint. It ended up being a $300 job by the time I left which not only included an alignment and bushings but also new ball joints(replaced because of carelessness on the mechanics part not wear).
If I had to do it again I would buy the adjustable cams and install them prior to taking it for the aligment and let them adjust them at the alignment shop.
I have the same problem. Where do I buy the camber bushings? I used springs from an F150 w/300 cid engine which is heavier than a 302 I've been told. I like the hieght, but have ruined a set of tires. Thanks. Mark.
