Is your truck computer controlled? O2 sensors, and all that might be affected, if that's the case.

My dad says that its somewhat computer controlled, I believe otherwise and say that it is not computer controlled. And another thing now, my dad says that it will cost around 500.00 to do a whole exhaust system from front to back, which i find horrible hard to believe. Headers for around 100-200 then add a dual exhaust system part for what 100-200? theres no way that it could come to 500 is there? I don't think so, But i'm sure i could be wrong. So what i'm asking is, can a dual exhaust set-up with headers cost around 500 or more? And can i just run headers for a little while and then convert to dual exhaust, as you guys know, funds get short. I just want the basic set-up. And if i can only afford the headers for now, how long should i run the headers on the regular stock single exhaust exit?

I have the same summit racing headers that Hotrod has on his truck. They are cheap, and not coated, just he said, and I've had them on for almost 2 years, with no problems, or leaks. I have had to tighten them once, and I probably ought to again soon. I just have a cat-back exhuast, and I think they'll perform a little better with a true dual setup.
Are you going for full-length or shorties? I have the shorties on my 93, and what they do is bolt in place of the manifolds. Full-length is obviously better, and depending on your area, are worth the extra $$$$$.
Are going to install a better exhuast system?

Summit headers: $159.99 + 6.95 SH.
Flowmaster Cat-back Dual pipes Single muffler: $237.00
High Flow Catalytic convertor kit $175.00
So, as you can see if you build it in stages you will end up spending about $500, but if you do it in stages you can save up to do whatever you want with it. I didn't know just how good mine sounded until the other day. My brother took my truck down to the store to get some cokes, Man that thing sounds good!

That is a problem with my truck, I do not know what it had in the truck orginally, And mine is on a 2 barrell Motorcraft Carb. So your saying to get the full length headers? In my area I do believe that I don't have to worry about emissions. So Whatever is best i'll try to get. But I would like ot get the full length. And yes I do plan to get a full dual exhaust system, haven't decided to get true dual exhaust or just cat-back.\
Hotrodford_88,
Thanks, I'm sure it sounds bad #####.

You can get the rest of the exhaust for less than $500, but you get what you pay for. A friend of mine did his exhaust for $200 and the pipes turned all rusty looking within 6 months. I've had my aluminum pipes and Thorley headers on for 18 months and they still look great. I have a true dual and had the exhaust custom built at 2.25" (collector size) all the way back. I used two $35 cats from Dynomax and had to cross over to the passenger side with both pipes to avoid my second gas tank. After the cats the pipes go into a dual in/dual out Flowmaster 50 series muffler (cost about $95 bucks) and the custom aluminum pipes end up in 18" X 3" stainless pencil tips (about $80 bucks) exiting underneath the rear bumper. The pipes cost about $300, the headers were around $350, so all told it cost nearly $900 bucks for the exhaust.
