Carl,
After looking it over tonight a bit while working on my trans seal, I think there should be sufficient strength there to allow the perch to be in tension. My intent was to set that top bolt going through the spring as close to the bed floor as possible. I was hoping to lower it about 4 inches, and as you had mentioned us wedges to correct the pinion angle.
More later, just trying to collect info for now...
Almost, the biggest worry I see is the wave on the frame around both sides of the front perch. With the taper of the perch mounting surface inverted, wide on the bottom and the frame narrow on the bottom you will cross over the wavey frame. Last night in the dark I did a quick measurement and that would relocate the spring eye by 8 inches or 4 inch rear drop. I would like to get a 2 1/2" rear drop. Just to level the truck, easier to load a motorcycle. Is the perch different on different years of trucks besides wider springs? I see a trip to Pick N Pull in the near future. Keep us posted on what works.
