i am using drop shackles for the back but have not been able to find a quality yet cost effective way to drop the front. ive been desperately lookin for drop springs for the front but have not had any luck. many say use drop i beams but sounds like to much of a pain.
1st mint hill who has the shackles i have ben looking but i cannot find any 1 that has them. 2 lmc trucks has them 2in drop springs 8cyl 63-72 $169.95 part# 45-2801 phone# 1800-222-5664
Didn't the later trucks, 70 on have a taller front spring perch tower and longer springs vs 67-69? This is around 2 1/2" taller. Use the tall perch with short springs. Must rebend the beam outboard the radius rod bolt hole for proper camber. On the rear, springs, shackles and perch swaps to get the proper ride. Lucky you don't have the (flex-o- matic) that 3/4 ton trucks have in the rear.
The tough question is how to lower a flex o matic rear without dearching or spending alot of money on overpriced aftermarket parts. 1/2 ton with flex o, see I learned something today, thanks.
you cant lower the trucks with the flex o matic system onthe back. i went to the junk yard a got a regular set of leafs for the back and purchased the drop shackles. 71100 ill have to get back to you on where i got them. bc theyre in the garage somewhere.
Well I have a '71 2wd short bed reg cab f100 with flex o matic and i bought lowering springs for the back and they fit. It put the rear tires 2 inches up in the fender wells. In the pic I have air in the air shocks so it doesnt sit as low as usual. Oh, by the way anyone wanna buy this truck. $5000.

1Bad; that's one great looking truck, you should keep it and enjoy. Nice stance. Who did you use for your rear springs, cost and what's different from the stock springs? To dearch you would be on the overload when empty, do you still have the same payload capacity? Thanks.

Yeah I was supprised by the stance after I put the kit on. I liked it. I just want a Jeep now so thats why I am selling it.
I went with LMC Truck for all my stuff. On the back I got 4" Lower springs which were $369. I know that sounds expensive and it was, but I had nothing else to spend my money on, I was only 16. DJM Suspension and Aim Industries both make drop hangers and shackles that would pretty much do the same thing and you could keep your stock springs. For the payload, last week, Dad put a whole lot of lumber in the bed and it didnt sag at all. I had the air shocks pumped up to 125 lbs. The difference is the arch of the spring. Compared to the stock, there is a huge difference. LMC's springs are of good quality, and do not take long at all to put on. Just use plenty of wd-40 or something along the lines. Ride quality is about the same, just as long as I dont pump the rear shocks up past 50 lbs, then it gets too stiff.
On the front, I put LMC's 2" drop coil springs for $169. I did not tell much of a difference so I cut 1 coil off. It messed up the camber a little but oh well. With the 235/60's on the front, you cant really tell. Aim also makes drop coils, but the best way to go is with drop I-Beams. DJM, Aim, and one other company I cannot remember makes them. Drop I-Beams allow you to lower the front without messing up the camber.
So their is no way to lower a truck with the flex-o-matic rear springs? I just realized that's what I have, and I was intending to flip the front spring perch upside down to lower it... is this a bad plan???
Almost; the holes on the front perch are not parallel, app 6 1/2" top and 5 1/2" bottom and the frame has a wrinkle that follows the perch taper. if you inverted them they would be into the bed by 1". If that worked it would be a 8" drop on the front perch or 4" on the rear of the truck. If you moved both holes top and bottom on the perch closer to the spring eye like 1 1/4" the perch would clear the bed by 1/4" Question, will the front perch take extension vs compression from the factory? This would place the front spring eye close to the bed like the rear spring eye, you would have to make pinion wedges to correct pinion angle. Behind the front perch is a cross member to make thing worse. I'm looking at lowering the rear 2 1/2" to get the truck level
not a slam front and rear. Me thinks on this some more.
