I searched for a couple hours on this but I didn't find the answer I was looking for. I have a 05 6.0 and was looking for a 4" cat-back system. I want it to have a loud rumble. I have heard that the MBRP kit is pretty quiet. I want to keep the cat though. I wouldn't mind not having a muffler. What kit would be best for me to buy? Or what combination would be better to do? I don't want turbo back or cat delete.
I have debated removing my cat or gutting it but cannot decide as I remember hearing in the past that is illegal to modify a cat and could earn me a large fine.
Is it illegal to remove the cat? If so, how are these cat-delete systems legal in California?
I believe it is, but if I had to venture a guess, I assume they cut them out and replace them with a piece of flex pipe.... when its time to go through DEQ then unclamp flexpipe and replace cat.
I have the Hog 4" Cat-back exhaust, and the muffler has a dual setting for sound level. (I have my setup for maximun sound) You can pick up from Moterhaven...its a good system, all stainless (304) including the hangers. The exhaust tip is 6".
I have an 05'psd lariet cc w/10875miles built 9/04. I had a 4" Stainless Bullydog exhaust installed turbo back and the installer cut the cat back in so that everything from the turbo flows 4" out to a 5" tip. I also installed an AFE stage 2 intake with the Pro-Guard 7 element and I couldn't be happier so far. It sounds awesome, both from the exhaust and the sound of the turbo. MPG have gotten considerably better as well.
If you ask 20 people you will get 20 different opinions, this is just working really great for me.
I am considering buying the single MSRP for my '04. I am looking mostly for better fuel milage which presently is about 15/17 mpg. How much performance increase can be reasonably be expected from a Cat Back setup vs. a Turbo Back setup with existing Cat in terms of mileage and horsepower?
I have an MBRP cat back system and it has a great sound to it. It is not as loud as the Bully Dog system but that is not what I was going for as I use my truck for everything. The system is nice its all stinless and has a 5" tip. It does has a sound equivelent to a gasser with superturbos... not a flowmaster 40 series. All depends on what you want. My MPG increased by about 2 consistantly. Although fuel mileage is directly related to haw far you keep your foot into the firewall for how long. If you get 15 -17 MPG consistantly thats great you may get a little more. I see 16 -18 since I installed the system but I have yet to take it on the highway to see what the fuel mileage really is at speeds. Good luck and like it was previously stated as 10 people get 10 different answers. I know what I Like and the price, quality and most importanty customer service at motorhave sold me on the MBRP. Good Luck!!
