I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how I can leave my cats on but bypass them. I want to be able to switch back to the cats when emmissions time comes around, but I want them to appear to be intact and functioning even if there not. I heard that you could run a straight pipe throught the cat, but will this damage it? It would be great if I could run the pipe through and then just remove it when I get it inspected and then put it back in. I have no idea what a CAT looks like inside or if this is possible. There has to be a way around all of this and I am open to any suggestions.
you can run a cat thru the cat so that it robs no power, but prob wont pass emissions, my 84 should, and it is a non cat truck, so yours might. the best way to do what you want to do is to make the cat removable, and replace with a length of pipe. The pipe/clamp will be clamped in. Keeps your cat perfect, and passes emissions every other year!
