302 to 316 stroker

Out of curriosity, what combination of crank, rods and pistons are needed for a 316 stroker? I've seen mention of 316s but have never seen much detail on them.

30 overbore and a 3.1" stroke crank. Not a really cost effective mod, it cost's the same to take it to a 3.25" ( 331) or 3.4" ( 347) . I went with a 331 on mine, just simply because it'll last longer than a 347. From what I've heard the 347's,some have oil burning problems and all take the block to the limit on stress.

O.k. I was curious if it was a stock crank and different rods. The 331 is done using a 3.25 stroke crank and 5.4" rods and stock pistons isn't it? Getting ready to rebuild a 302 and don't want to sink a mint but I can get a 3.25 crank for the same as a stock crank and 5.4 rods for about $25 more.

rlh, you not going to be able to run a stroker with out upgrading to mass air. badd's motor is carbed so he has less to worry about. but your computer will freak being speed density.

The 331 doesn't use the stock pistons, so you'll need those too. One of the 351W strokers uses stock 302 pistons. I bought a kit from a friend that builds race motors and with the kit, and machine work, the total for the shortblock minus the oil pump and camshaft was $1325

The fsb is an 86 carbed rig with a Weiand dual plane intake. The '86 was carbed from the factory and I'm probably going to keep it that way. I know about the mass air/speed density issues with my 1990 fsb.

I'm aware that the block has to be clearanced for 5.4 or 5.315 rods. I was thinking with the 331 strokers, the piston's were stock or 331 depending on which rods were used. I have a 351 block but its been rebuilt once and I need to measure the taper to see if it can be bored to .040 or not, assuming it has already been bored .030. If I do build it, I'll be going with a 393 setup for sure.

Don't have my calculator here, but the stock pistons are still too tall for even the 5.315 rods and a 3.25 stroke crank. Pin height for the stockers is around 1.585-1.610.

I'm a rookie poster, but I've began picking up parts to do this- 302/316. Got a fair deal on an Eagle forged crank 3.10"stroke(unused) and used JE pistons .020 over, compression height 1.33". It uses 5.315" rods with .927 pins and 2.10" rod journals. Trying to do a economical stroker, gonna port the stock heads -94f150- or pick up a set of Explorer heads (GT40P's).Crane 2031 and 1.7rr's. Nothing too radical, but a lot more juice than the stock 5.0.
