My uncle has a '01 F-450 auto with 80K on the clock. He was hauling a load of cattle about 200 miles one way loaded and back unloaded. About back to the house the OD light started flashing and it seemed like it wouldn't shift back into OD. The tranny temp gauge read 250 and stayed there. All this was unloaded. Now it goes through 1-3 fine but seems like it won't shift into OD.
He has a SuperChips on it, with 4" exhaust and guages.
What do we do. I am gonna take out the tuner and reset all the codes and see what the truck does.
What else should I do?
Also what possibly could be wrong?
Kinda sounds like it could be a VSS going bad. I dont know what it will give you for a code number but I bet its the speed sensor. there faily cheap, and realy simple.

The 250 temperature is a big clue. Start by checking tranny fluid level. If ok, check the tranny coolers. Sounds like an internal transmission problem though. The flashing light indicates a fault you will find with the tuner. Mine reset just by shutting down and restarting the truck. You can maybe reset codes with the tuner, but may have to disconnect the batteries wait 15 min and reconnect them to actually resolve the problem. Be sure to resolve the high temperature though.
Good Luck
