swaping heads
I got a 82 255 . My q is how can i get some more horse power out of it with out going krazy.I would like to put a mild cam /headers four barrel.
can i put heads off a 302 or 351 on it.Would that work or what?
Or should i stay with the old heads.
What is the difference between the 255/289 /302 /351

The bores are too small to swap 302/351 heads onto it. Best thing for you to do is to swap in a 302 or 351 in there. The 255 was NEVER intended to be a performance engine. Bores are 3.7" and thus can't handle the larger valves of the 302/351's, they'll hit the deck if they open far enough.

As for the difference between the 255, 289, 302, 351, the 255 and 302 shared the same stroke crank ( although the cranks are different, the 255 ones are lighter and weaker) The 289, 302, 351's all had 4" bores but different strokes ( 2.87, 3.00 & 3.50) The 351's had a taller deck block to handle the 1/2" longer stroke. There are many other differences as well, too many to post here.
