which tranny...?

it's auto.. 4R100 then... 4x4... anything i should be aware of on this bugger... planning to change the fluid soon, she has 88k on her, almost all highway with a little towing... i am planning to use synthetic fluid and add another tranny cooler.. stock one looks a little small... anybody have any reccomendations..?

I think there's a how to in the tech articles on the site for changing the tranny fluid - I know there's a good description somewhere around here. Your '02 doesn't have a TC drain - so it's not quite as easy as drain and re-fill - there's a little process you gotta do to get all the fluid out. I just did mine not long ago - not a bad job really. As for the tranny cooler - I believe quite a few guys around here are running aftermarket/bigger coolers - the stock one is marginal.

I'm a firm believer in doing 30K mi tranny flushes (20K mi under heavy towing), with a good ATF. I try to use Motorcraft if I can.
Synthetics really do have some advantages in a tranny that sees some heavy duty abuse, Mobil 1 synthetic ATF comes to mind.
With 88K mi on your rig, I'd put a new tranny filter in as well.
ATF flushes are the surest way towards a long life transmission.
