Changing odometer reading on the speedo?

Can someone please tell me if it's possible to change the odometer reading and still have it work when your done, and if so HOW?I'm not commiting fraud so please don't get any bad ideas,When I bought my 97 f150 xl the gauge cluster didn't have a tach so I was recently was able to purchase a cluster with a tach.Only one small problem the new cluster reads about 60000km less than my truck has on it and I would like very much to keep the right km's on my speedo-any info would be appreciated very much-thanks

I believe only the dealer can change the odometer reading, but they would probably make you buy a new cluster with the corrected reading. Just document the change in your owner's manual and if you ever sell it make sure you notify the buyer.

triton_2002 is right. The dealer will only change a new one. Just take a pic of the 2 clusters side by side and stick them in your owners manual.

Dealers can't change the odometer reading either.
If we need to replace a cluster we have to specify the mileage on the old one and the new one will come programmed to that mileage.

Thanks for the info,if I had a old cluster I'd probably try to change the reading to see if I could get it to work--but I don't.So I'll take a picture and do a little documention for future reference and that will have to be the way I go.

I have a friend that works for this shady dealership, and I was looking at getting a truck from there before, but didnt, but he says his boss changes the odometer readings very easily, everything works after, and nothing is different except it looks like it has alot less kilometers on it.

Exclamation

The vibe I get here (correct me if I am wrong) is that the clusters in questions have the rolling numbers and not the digital readout. You should be able to swap the whole odo unit like I did with my Ranger tach cluster swap.

All I did was pop out the side gauges on my base cluster, tach the speedo out, swap speedo into tach cluster and it looks factory. You should have already bought the Haynes manual for your truck that shows how to do this. That's where I got my info, rather than having to pry at (and break) odo units like some doofs have.

If it looks like that, well, odo units break and there is usually some semi-easy way to get them out.

I thought all the ford odometers have been digital for a while now? My dad's 94 f350 is digital. Oh well, I guess everyone was assuming it was digital. I still wouldn't mess with it, just brings up too many questions if you ever sell it.

Triton_2002, my 98 had an analog odometer, my 01 had the digital. I do know that some 98's had digital. Why some had digital and some analog I can't answer.
