What is the best upgrade for a '93 460 with EFI? Exhaust, air, or ??? I want to invest in the motor and need help knowing what to do 1st, 2nd, and so on. Where is the biggest bang for the buck.
If you have the Plastic radiator go with metal.<---that was stupid thing to do Ford.
Clutch
catalytic converter
flywheel
Those were my biggest break downs.
If you search this forum and the 460 engine forum, you will find a lot of mods and upgrades mentioned. Which is the most bang for the buck? Well, I personally believe it is headers and exhaust setup. I put the Banks Power Pack on my 460 and it has noticably more power. This does include some air intake mods (K&N filter etc). Banks claims 70 hp gain at the rear wheels from a typical dyno test. It isn't cheap though, especially if you have it professionally installed.
Best mods to start with are getting more in and out of the engine. A good set of headers, no cats or high flow ones, and a good system the rest of the way will make a noticable improvement. I noticed a good improvement with the headers on my truck.
another really cheap mod for hp gain look at the plastic piece of you intake hoses right before the throttle bodies take the hoses off you will see that it is restricted down with an air horn (will make sense when you take the hoses off) cut those off, it gains as much as 15hp or so I heard, and cost the amount of a hacksaw blade, and 1/2hr of your time.
