Hi there. Hope this post is in the right spot. Anyway.....
I have a buddy with the 4.2ltr in a 98 e-250 van. When he is on the highway it seems to stumble and buck bad. It idles fine and at WOT it goes fine also. We are trying to track down the issue and with a little reading online I think it is the mass air flow sensor. Has anyone else had the same problem? Was it the MAF sensor? Where is it located on this van. Man it is tight in there.
Anything else I should be looking at? That sensor isnt cheap so i dont want to drop coin on it if it is not it.
No codes I'm guessing or you would have mentioned such.
I'd expect a bad MAF to cause some kind of code.
The MAF is inside the plastic piece located just after the air filter. It has a wiring harness (5 wires I think) that plugs into it.
How many miles on the engine?
Any previous service issues or recent service work?
Ya no codes. I was reading that there was a service bulletin from ford saying that the MAF sensor goes bad in this engine and it may not trigger a check engine light.
120,000 on the engine and nothing changed as far as tune up. Going to do all that in time.
