swapping tie rods???

So I am still looking for a way to swap out my stock steering for something better and have come across another thought. Is it possible to swap out the steering on my 79 D44 with a set up from a mid 90's or so 250?? My friend has a 250, not sure what year and it looks like it would work. Is this structurally sound and would it work. Any thoughts are appreciated

Mostly just the tie rods. The system I speak of does not use a steering arm like the one in my 79. The newer ones have a system similar to a crossover but in the tie rod that drops to the passenger side, another shorter rod attached to that tie rod and links up to the passenger side knockle. I have a drop pitman arm and would ideally like a crossover system but I'm living on a college students top ramen and keystone budget, so I have been trying to brainstorm ideas that will work effectively.
