I need to replace the shocks on my Bronco. I have been reading posts with regards to shocks and getting advice. I have mostly settled on the Rancho RS5000 as they fit my paycheck and will look great on the truck. Cost is a consideration for me and I have to buy six. The boards seem to like the Ranchos and I'll install them and then take my Bronco to get the alignment checked. I have been driving it a few days now and it seems tight. I just have some "floating" or a little bouncing after crossing some really wicked railroad tracks. Normally, its okay. My uncle says that shocks would be a good investment and I really think they will help. I have a hitch mounted and want to borrow a trailer and pull a Polaris ATV this weekend to the mountains with my girl. I think that I need to replace the shocks to tow totally safely, I should have looked closer when I did my inspection. On the inside of one of the front shocks you can see a little oil. Just mostly a comment but it anyone has the time, am I on the right track?
i planned on getting the rs5000s but after looking some more and reading more forums I decided I would get the rsx17000s. For six it would be about $84 more than six rs5000s but these automatically adjust to the terrain and are obviously a few steps up from the rs5000 due to features and price. It also seemed people said the rs5000s were not a soft ride but whatever. It may just be worth the money to go for a little better shock. You definetely don't want to go wrong with a shock though.
I just bought two KC's for my Bronco and should have saved the money for the better shocks. I think they will do okay, at least I hope so. Thanks for the info. I guess I'll go to Autozone and pick up six of them on Friday (payday!) I'm starting to think that I am going to spend way too much on the Bronco. I know this is not this topic, but I found a clip on light bar to go over the top and not have to drill holes. Do the clip on bars work okay? I should post this in another thread, but I just wanted an opinion. I eventually want an off-road roof rack.
KBronco, I can tell you from experience that the Auto Zone cheapo shocks are junk, and you will be replacing those within a year. I have used Rancho RS5000 shocks on my trucks for the past 20+ years, and have NEVER broken one. IF you have one leaking oil, it is toast. I also have the RSX shocks on an 85 truck. These are a bit "softer" than the RS5000's, maybe more suited for a mostly street ride. The RS5000's will handle the street and any offroad terrain you can find. They are firmer.

I wasn't very clear. I'm going to buy the Ranchos from Auto Zone, they have a sale on them near me. I'm going to stay with the RS5000. I just can't do the $'s on the better Ranchos now. Sorry I wasn't clear.

Thanks to all who gave me advice. I got 6 Rancho's today for the Bronco and they cost me a little over $250.00 with tax. I'm going to my uncle's in the morning and use his impact tools to change them out. He is going to help me mount my lights on the light bar and he had an extra set of 100w fog lights in the shop that he is letting me have. While the Bronco is jacked up, I'm going to clean and silicone coat the wheel wells so they will look great behind the shocks.
congrats come back and tell us how you like the ride. By that price was that six of the rs5000's. I got some from Superlift's scratch-n-dent evil bay store. I am going to put them on today hopefully. If I do I will come back and tell you guys how they do. roughly $13 a pop so i said I will give it a try. If no good, THenI will probably go buy either the rsx's or some of the KYB's monomax? I have heard some good things about them.
Hey Kbronco,
If you're going to be trailering, you might want to mount some lights on that bar facing rearwards so you can turn them on and actually see where your going when the sunlighting is poor. Theres nothing worse then trying to backup a trailer using your reverse lights to see with.
Cheers
Popa Tim
Thank you sir. That's a great idea. I am not sure that I could see anything from the light bar that's over my seat. I could put like a flood on the tire carrier. I've never seen it done there, but it might just do the trick. I am going to borrow my uncles trailer and ATV sometimes to go to the mountains with my girlfriend or to fish. I have to start a little thread on my "adventures" yesterday though. I really got to know more about my Bronco.
Hey Kbronco I had just recently purchased 4 SRB's for my 96' Bronco and was woundering where you had got the light bar from Im in search of one as of now I had found one online but they were asking 275 for and i would have to buy special clips for the gutter attachment but please post where you had gottenit and price and the company thank you
Try everythingoffroad.com for the Carr Deluxe Light bar, black finish. @ 82.95 ea. If you don't have gutters +19.95 for the kit. You shouldn't need the kit. Hope this helps.
