Just wondering if anyone is using these bulbs in their super duty. I drive alot at night and looking on upgrading to a better bulb than the stock ones.
I have had them in my '04 for almost a year and they are still bright as can be. Nobody has been bothered by them so far as I know (no "flashing" high beams my way).
I have Silverstars installed in my headlamps but left the fog lamps stock. The Silverstars do seem to help and I'm glad I swapped them out. Theoretically, the Silverstars will not last as long as the OEM bulbs, but I can't prove that yet....
You can find them at Walmart about as cheap as anywhere.
I put them in an 88 Trans Am I had. They weren't bulbs, but the entire light assembly. I installed one and shined them on a wall. HUGE difference over the regular lights. I could notice a big difference at night too. I will buy some for my truck if one ever burns out. Matt
I put Silverstars in my 2004 F350. They're great, and they seem to hold up as good as any bulb ever does, at least so far. I'm still working on the Foglights.
I think they offer a sizeable increase in nightime visibility for not that much money. Some folks have upgraded to HID llights. They're lurking around here somewhere...
I recentlyt put the Sylvania SilverStar 9007 headlight bulbs in my 2002 SD. I purchased them from Summit Racing. I also purchased Summit's wiring harness/relay just to be on the safe side (nice thick wires, good gauge; all fully enclosed in an outer sleeve). During my research, I'd heard from enough people here on FTE that you can fry the stock wiring. So, for the $40 extra for the wiring harness/relay, I have piece of mind. The wiring harness went in very easily. Even the way it folds-out as you lay it in place where it's supposed to go takes all the guesswork out of how it gets installed and where to ground, etc.
I'm only a shadetree mechanic with a Regular Joe set of tools and I installed the bulbs and wiring harness/relay in about 1 hour.
BTW, I am happy with the increase in brightness with the 9007 Sylvania SilverStar's. A nice increase in brightness; a bit more distance on how far the beam shoots out and illuminates the road ahead; and no one's flashed their brights at me yet, so I guess they're not so bright as to be obnoxious or a safety hazard to oncoming traffic.
I put them in my 04 SD about a month after I purchased it and can say they made a very slight improvement. I feel the main problem with my F250 lighting is the design of the headlight reflectors. With the OEM bulbs or the Silverstars I see wasted light being reflected to many areas other than the roadway in front of the truck. I wound up installing Lightforce auxillary lights and aiming them primarily down at the road immediately in front of the truck and it makes a world of difference. The Silverstars help, but not enough.
