Front End "SLOP"

I have a 1996 F -150 and the steering seems a little loose. I have new ball joints and shocks on the truck. It is a 2wd, with a 4.9L six cylinder. It has about 81,000 miles on it. Any suggestions on how to get this tighter?

Bill

It could be tie rod ends, axle pivot bushings, radius arm bushings, or a combination of the above. See my other post a few minutes ago.

It could *also* be the steering box or something in the linkage (rag joint, etc). The steering box can be tightened with the screw on top, but is obviously only going to work if none of the other components are at fault.

Have someone turn the wheel back and forth as you inspect each of the steering linkages. Start with where the steering column attaches to the gearbox and work your way through all the tierod ends. If there is any play or looseness, they need replaced.
