I believe everything gets bored at some point...But, I believe it depends upon the breed. Example: Our Scottish Highlanders loved to tear up any and everything all the time, while Our herefords and angus and crosses seemed for the most part to be completely content. Some breeds are smarter than others and some cattle are pretty smart - especially when they decide they need to seek femine attention at the neighbors or want the feed you don't want them to be in. They definitely have a mind of their own.
This thread reminded me of a discussion I had with my Aunt about one of my cousins (male, son of another Aunt).
This guy is just plain dumb & says some really inane & non-sensical things. Sadly, he isn't perceptive enough to realize that everyone else is smarter than he is.
He's from the stagnant end of the family gene pool...
CowboyBilly. Some humans are not too far from cattle. As they grow older they don't get any smarter, and then by the time they are seniors they start to get dumber. They might as well have a tail and eat grass. I have at least two of them in my family. At their peak - about one step above sheep. I actually like the sheep and cows better, at least they are good for something.
We have a couple in our dairy herd that respond when called by thier name. They know when its feeding time. They know when its time to get milked. They know that if the gate is open they have to move for the tractor and mixer.
Do cows get bored? Your guess is as good as mine. If all you did was eat, drink, and sleep all year, would you be bored? I for one would be.
CASH cow perhaps, but in any case - Can you say: "MOO"?
I assure you - that each and every one of us is being "harvested" in some way - constantly. That is how money is made.
The entire post above was good, but I didn't want to copy things I'm not going to comment on. The few lines above are absolutely correct. The difference between us and cattle is that we harvest back at those who harvest from us.
Cows do get bored. I hold lectures everytime a big rain comes in. I explain why this side of the creek is best, and not go swimming or wading while the creek is up.
I remind the mamas to watch the babies, and the babies to watch each other.
My wife finds this very entertaining.......but hey they listen.
If they are willing to listen to me ramble, they must be bored.
Your still here....bored huh.
I've seen one dash for a hole in the fence and get caught in it, only to have all the others follow.
LOL. I've removed innumerable (is that a real word??) amounts or sheep and goats from fences they have gotten stuck in or gates they tried to squeeze out of that turned out to be tighter than they thought. Oh yeah, gettin stuck in the wire above the fence put in place to prevent jumping out is the funniest. Pigs, on the other hand, are smart enough to attempt to knock the living daylights out of anything in their way, rather than trying to go through it. A cow on my grandfathers former ranch put her head into the rear cab panel of his extended cab F350 and figured she wanted to keep goin and proceeded to dent the panel. Ya, they're smart...
