Hey guys, its been a while but I figured you guys could help me out if anyone. I just got a speeding ticket the other day going supposedly 48 in a 30 on my way to U of I to watch the finals. This is the circumstances, I was driving my 01 'stang as was my buddy right behind me w/ the same exact car in a different color. He was clocked at 58!?!?!? He claimed to have a "double radar system." But how can he go that fast without rearending me? Anyways, the cop never said a word to me except "license and registration." He also didnt' ask me to sign the ticket, I was wondering if that mattered or any other things you have done to get out of tickets because I really can't afford this or the car is gone. Thanks guys!
Austin.
I didn't really know i was speeding, at least by that much. we just pulled out of the gas station and were heading out of town and honestly just wasn't paying attention. We were just talkin' about the night that was about to come and BAM. lights.
The only other option you've got is getting a lawyer. That'll cost $500 or more, but if your insurance is a stake, might even be worth it.
The last speeding ticket I got (5+ years ago), I think I could have talked my way out of if there hadn't been a radar detector on the dash. Sometimes I think the police add bonus points when they see those things.
Yea pretty much have to hope he doesnt show up in court.
In Mn the is something about the Radar dectors have to be tested every 4 years for accuracy, and they can be up to 4 miles an hour off, I realy dont know never investicated it, just heard of it.
I would go to court, if your buddy was goin 10 MPH faster then you I dont see how that is possible, could be a bogus story. how long was the 30 MPH zone, how far from a jump in MPH were you, where was the nearest sign, did you both get pulled over???
I got an 86 in a 55 a few months ago, $200 bucks later. I just stay out of wisconsin now MN cops are better.
i got caught doin 75 in a 45 in my old Cougar i had about a year ago...cop didn't show in court...but thing was..neither did i because i didn't have the court date right..i was lookin at the wrong date on the ticket...i was like a month late when i came in to set it up on a payment plan and try to hide it from my mom...she found out anyways..cause she found the paper at the house...i had it layin around and she found it...but she would'a found out anyway...cause about 3 months later, got a letter in the mail sayin that my license were suspended 'til i was 18..(was 16 at the time)...about 2 months later,i got my license back...thank god i knew some people that could do some good talkin....
well, i went to court for my 55 in a 35, said he clocked me at 57 and cut me some slack, he didn't show up in court, it was admin court, doesn't matter though, I was still processed, in admin court, the cop isn't required to show up for the hearing, i went and actually researched it afterwards, even though the judge said it in the room. Walked out with a PJC and my pocket $100 lighter, but insurance is untouched, thank god, about to turn 19, and insurance is already high enough on my little ol ranger.
about 2 months later,i got my license back...thank god i knew some people that could do some good talkin....
let me guess, your friends dad is a cop, or better yet, your dad's a cop? Thats such BS when people get out of stuff cause they know someone. If I was a cop and gave someone a ticket, no way in hell I'd let them out of it cause someone wanted a favor.
yes there are radar units that will lock in 2 vehicles, but each must be clocked seperately. the radar will not distinguish which vehicle you are clocking. That is where training and expertise come in. speed, vehicle size, and terrain play big part in it.
Jersey,
simply getting his PRIVELEDGE back doesn't mean he got a favor. Most states allow exceptions upon good cause. Too bad all us cops are not so hard line as you say you would be, wouldn't the world be a better place LOL!
Well thanks for the replies guys. I'm not familiar with the county so I'm not sure what different programs they might have but I'll check it out and just see what happens. Thanks again.
Think that sucks? Two years ago, Bristow, Oklahoma, 4:14am, on my way to work. No one out but me and the dim wit night watchman and the mayor's cat. Got burned for doing 26mph. in a 25mph zone. Cost me a total of a nice round $150.00. Doesn't help much that the nit wit cop is the son of the lady in the Town's office where you pay the fines and she is shacked up with the Chief of Police to boot. Small town Oklahoma. Can't beat it, huh?
How can you be going a certain speed and someone behind you going faster? The answer is simple, he got behind and was catching up. If you were speeding, pay the ticket. As a law enforcement officer, I enjoy watching what happens to people who come to court and plead not guilty on a speeding ticket. Usually they end up paying $400 to $500 for a ticket they could have paid off for less than $100 before they were found guilty. You could hire a good attorney. Pay him $500 to get your speed reduced and your fine increased.
