I think I could have talked my way out of if there hadn't been a radar detector on the dash. Sometimes I think the police add bonus points when they see those things.
yeah, I would too. I had a friend get to ride with a cop for extra credit for some class, she said it was dark and raining and they pulled up behind a kid with a radar detector and they could see the lights through the rear windshield (on the radar detector) she said he turned on his radar and they watched the light turn red, and the kid slowed down, then he turned it off and the kid sped back up, then he turned it back on, and they just messed with the kid
is the cop spose to show you the radar gun? I'm still doing probation for a speeding ticket so it won't go on my insurance, and I never saw the radar gun, I didn't argue it though, I was speeding
I am convinced of two things- it doesn't pay to argue, and the easiest ticket to get out of is the first one. It's all downhill from there. Kid did the traffic school thing after his 1st speeding ticket, which I'm really glad of. Insuring a teen is like insuring an axe-murderer already, without a ticket or two tacked on.
I have to agree with that one I am insuring two girls now. My son starts driving next year. I ask about insuring him and it was not a nice price at all.
There has to be times when the radar systems slight error compounds or something to make it seem like a really extreme speed difference. One time my brother was following me home one evening on a 65 mph highway, and we both had the cruise control on with both vehicles at like 66-67. He was an identical distance behind me for probably 4 miles, and then all of a sudden he was pulled over. He didnt get a ticket, but the highway patrol was convinced that he was doing something like 75 and he asked what I was doing and he said that radar got me at like 77.
No way that both my F150 and our Chrysler minivan were both having speedo problems that put us both over by 10 mph. Shoot, it was after a drag racing day, its suicide to speed on your way home because all the radar is just waiting for somebody to have fun when its get out.
My agency did require us to show the equipment we were using if asked. Usually did not prove anything other than we had one, as we usually had 2 or more guys where we were running the enforcement and the speed was already cleared out of the unit. Stopping cars can be a pretty dangerous thing, so we never really ran a "speed trap" alone. But on the bright side, the 5mph over soccer mom was safe with us, we had more than enough business without stopping them, and we did not stop anyone unless they were at least 20mph above the limit, unless we had specific orders, or special assignment for complaints, then ya only got 12mph leeway LOL.
well..since my post got deleted...i'm gonna re-post and maybe this time it won't get deleted..i don't know,it probably will...i really don't understand why it's okay for some people to act one way, then when others act the same way, they're treated differently..this is the first time i've ever had any trouble on this site..usually everyone is civil and don't act stupid..but anyway...Jersey..no,ignorant, my friends dad isn't a cop...and my father is dead...he died 2 years ago of cancer.....
and i guess nobody has ever done you a favor?..go ahead buddy,be pissed off at the world...you probably don't do anything for anybody and that's why nobody does any favors for you...congratulations on being my first enemy on this site..
I hate seeing people being pulled over for less than 10mph. Friend of mine is a retired GM test driver. Federal law allows a new vehicle speedo to be off by 5mph.
IMO you should fight any ticket you ever get. My recent 80.00 ticket cost me a bit more than 80.00 bucks to fight but it is well worth it. A dismissal is sweet.

Why? If you are given a ticket, you are obviously breaking the law. The speed limit isn't 30 MPH, plus or minus 10 MPH. The limit is posted as is, no ifs, ands, or buts. People screw up, get caught, and then won't take the punishment for breaking the law. Everyone is out to get them. All cops are bad, and just out to get them because they are young, because the drive a sports car, because they drive a lifted truck, etc., etc., etc.

Please consider this a direct challenge.
I require the specific offense, the date and location of the offense, and offense code. The ticket number. The name of the officer that wrote the ticket. The court location and name of judge. The date and time of your court hearing.

I think you are missing an important point. Laws are created by the legislature, signed by the governor, and enforced for the good of the people as a whole. The good of the people as a whole is more important than the will of one individual person who choses to do as they wish.
I caught a young man about 2 years ago for DUI. He and his parents hired a very expensive attorney. To make a long story short, the attorney got the DUI reduced, and the boy kept his license. Daddy got him out of trouble. About 4 months later, he was driving drunk again, had a wreck and killed a young man. The same attorney did not get him out of that one, and he is in prison for a long time. Had he taken his lumps on the first DUI, he wouldn't be in prison now. Laws are not created simply because the legislature has to find something to do. They are created to protect the public.
You should tell the families of people who get killed in car wrecks because of speeding drivers that speeding tickets are a waste of time. You may think speeding is trivial, but have a wreck while speeding and kill someone, and in most states you can be charged with vehicular homicide.
I would agree with that post...to a point. Recently, as so many states have run budget shortfalls, speeding enforcement has also been discovered as an important source of revenue. When speeds traps, red-light running, etc is used for revenue generation instead of traffic safety, it demeans the entire process. Just my .02.
