new tailgate?

When I bought my truck I had some trouble opening the tailgate, it opens alright but you have to know the trick. If I lift the gate on the left and then pull on the right and then pull the gate handle -viola! it opens! It's a neat trick but it got old rather quick. I'd like an opinion as to what I should do about it. Take a look at the photo, the gate has a punched area that is inhibiting the gate from dropping. Should I replace the gate or spot weld it back into shape?

A replacement in the junkyard should be halfway cheap. The way these things are made, it's hard to get them "right" if they get severely dented like that.

New is inexpensive too

Check out LMCtruck.com, they have lots of parts that are very close to original.

my truck was purshased with a 73-79 tailgate its fits great and lines up just about perfectly with the body lines you could probably find one cheaper and easier since these trucks are a little more common
