The Clutch on my 89 F-250 4x4 with 7.3L diesel and ZF 5 speed does not disengage. The Slave cylinder moves the proper amount and the lever is not bent. However when I pulled the clutch I noticed that the machine surface on the flywheel can spin seperatly from the flywheel so I pulled the flywheel and unbolted the machine piece to find a sort of band that runs around the mount where the flywheel bolts to the crank. There was a kind of gunk built up on the band. The pressure plate and clutch material look like new. So this has me stumped. I have pics, but the gallery is being crap and won't let me upload any pics. Any help would be greatly apprieciated as to why my clutch will not disengage. Thanks
You need a new flywheel. Call one of the site sponsors that handles LuK clutches. They can sell you either a new dual mass flywheel or a solid flywheel option. They will need to know the 8th digit of the VIN to identify the engine.
Yes, the flywheel is the problem. Your truck has a dual mass flywheel. In this system the damper is in the flywheel, not the disc. The machined surface you mention (secondary) is supposed to be attached to the part that is attached to the crankshaft (primary). That connection, the damper, has failed. This system is for improved gear rattle performance. I agree with the post above, buy a solid flywheel and damped disc setup.
Most likely will get a solid disc, since ipriced a flywheel out and it cost $1400 from ford. Oh and the clutch did not just up and quite working it was a gradual thing.
I checked it out, and will probably get the clutch through them. However they don't give much detail as to what comes in the kit. It just says comes with solid flywheel and mounting hardware. Does that include the clutch and everything for $540. I hope so because I we order it and end up just getting some bolts and a flywheel my dad will be for surely PO'd since he is the one footing the bill. Thanks for your help
