84 ranger 2.3 need help

Hi I am a new member here and need some serious help with my Ranger. I want to remove the computer and put in an older distributor and carb. (maybe Pinto) Has any one ever done this and can I get some advice please. What i am looking to do is make the truck very simple and easy to tune. I can not get it to run good now and I give up on it because I think the computer or the many many sensors are junk. Also I believe by removing all of the emissions crap I will gain a ton of power. Emissions is not needed where I live.

Thanks
TT

Welcome to FTE !

Have you checked for codes?
Doing a complete conversion could be alot more expensive than finding & fixing what's actually wrong with your truck now.
What are the symptoms it has now?
AL.

Thanks for the welcomes and replies. The problem I am having is a lack of power and sputtering and coughing. The engine is new the carb is new and I have tuned it to the best of my ability. No codes come up on the scanner. I have never been much for computer controlled carbs or throttle bodies. It seems to me the earlier computers are a lot of trouble. The mass of vacuum switches and hoses are killing me. Also, I heard through another forum that the computer does not control the ignition so the carb is all I will need to replace. I have found a company that makes an intake for a Weber carb and some nice cams to match. I would just need to find a header to complete that package. That may be the route I go unless I find a cheap and easy fix. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
