The jack I have is a Larkin (maybe Lamkin, Lankin?)...it's red. The way this thread has been going, it sounds like I'm not going to waste time rebuilding this one (unless someone knows something I don't about this brand of jacks), and am going to go new.
That being said, I'd like to hear some opinions about what brand to get, where to get it.
Also CheapRanger mentioned U-Joints insteand of gears...is this what I should be looking for?
I'm a Weekend Warrior changing brakes, oil, oil filters, etc. It's going to have to be able to lift a Nissan Altima, a 1988 Bronco, 1998 Tahoe, and 1990 Chevy Pick-up....all stock height. But, just because I'm not going to be under there all of the time, doesn't mean I'm willing to go cheap. Watcha got?
I'm not sure what brand floor jack I have, but it has been going strong for 20+ years. About the only maintenance I've ever done is to check the hydraulic fluid level about 5 years ago, which was still full. Of course its made in the USA. It weighs a ton, easily double what most jacks of the same capacity sold these days, but I'd never use anything else. If it ever starts leaking, I'll just find a way to rebuild it because it would probably easily cost me $300 to replace it with something of similar quality.
