Sorry guys, I modified my truck to the point where, although great off road, on road it was the worst. Gas prices are climbing and I didn't want to spend anymore money on gas. Plus I hated manuvering in and out of traffic.
No ripping from me, just a question:
With gas an issue you traded for a Dodge Magnum?
What's the EPA estimates for it?
Perhaps my assumption is inaccurate, but I'd guess it would not be a fuel sipper.
Either way, it's your ca$h and your truck. I hope you enjoy it and it treats you well.
I didn't get the Hemi engine, which is ALL Mercedes. The engine only runs on 4 cylinders and then kicks in all 8 when you floor it. The gas mileage is actually pretty good.
I got the 250 horsepower loaded XST with the RT package. It runs on all 3.5 litres all the time. I don't like a computer deciding to shut off and turn on cylinders. That's been tried in the past before and has miserably failed. I aint taking the chance. Plus, believe it or not, the 3.5 is faster from the start and will beat the Hemi.
My truck was only getting 8mph avg with the lift kit and big tires. The knocking engine was not going to go away and there was no warranty left on the truck. Only a matter of time before I ran into big problems. I loved the truck, but it had to go.
The Magnum gets 30 mpg highway and is really freakin' fast when stomped on. Plus it's really roomy just as I like it.
But, you know, it IS just a car and that's it. A fun one though. I think Dodges best yet. And I'm NOT a big Dodge fan. I don't know Dodge very well.
I'm a Ford guy and did look at the new Stangs but I'm too freakin' tall and need something big and comfortable. The Stang is too small and I would grow easily tired of it.
Congrats on the truck! I had to decide between a Dodge and the Ford that I have now...I definately won't rip on ya. I know people will think I'm crazy, but I like Dodge. The mileage on the V8's usually suck, but I think they are nice vehicles. Enjoy, just don't go to far from us!
I guess I dont know the whole story...But, why not just return the truck to stock? Sell off your kits and stuff. I dunno. I like my 91 civic...LoL 35 mpg!
i think the magnums are GREAT. i have a deep appreciation for the compnay ever since MB took over. (similar to the ford/chevy rivalry, i favor MB over BMW...it's a stronger hate than ford/chevy in my book).
Are they fast Tom, anyone? I've been trying to talk the wife into trading her Mitsubishi for one. No go so far. I just think it is an interesting car. I've got my truck for anything I need to do and getting to work and then I could have the hot rod station wagon to stick the car seat in the back. It would be just like the Durango commercials...
Joe, are you liking the V8 much more than the 4.2?...I still occasionally think about the other two cylinders.
I'm liking it a lot actually. It's got more power for sure...although not a "ton" more. It just feels better knowing a V8 is under the hood I guess. The V6 kicked it's tail in acceleration though...by a long shot.
I just want a couple mods to make me happy...I am missing my Intake sucking sound and exhaust sound...

Only until you chip it, gear it, MAC it, and new exhaust. I can't imagine you'll miss the V6 at all then. I've been thinking about doing some of the things you guys have done to your 4.2s. I just can't seem to justify doing the stuff to a truck that has 110,000 miles on it.
Actually, IF I go the chip route again...I'd probably end up getting a tuner. The chip was nice and all, but it seems like the tuners are really where it's at right now.
I'll never do gears again. Intake and Exhaust are a must...maybe Headers and E-Fans waaaaaaaaaaaaaay down the line.
I am still thinking about getting a tuner. I'm just not sure, without doing anything else, if it is worth it. Right now I'm thinking about starting to look for another 4.2 and tranny from a wreck, playing with the engine a little bit and then getting a tuner..I dunno. The "problem" is this thing is still running pretty decent for the mileage. It needs a few bugs worked out, but nothing major. I might just finish the these last couple of payments, keep this one and buy me a used V8 to toy with. We'll see.
Good luck and enjoy the new one, Joe.
Tom, still waiting to here if that muscle wagon is fun to drive?
