According to the maintenance schedule, the cap and roter need to be replaced at least as often as the wires do.

My trusty 93 minivan died on my today while driving, all of a sudden it just stopped working and I barely made it into the parking lot with no power steering.

It won't start now. I turn it on with the key and I can hear it trying to start but it wont, the windows and radio still work though.

I have concluded that the problem is electrical.

Either a bad TIF-IV Ignition Module or bad coil.

Where is the TIF-IV Ignition Module located?

It should be on he radiator, on the passenger side fender. You can have Autozone test it for absolutely free. That way, you don't have to replace it unless you have to. Have you checked the spark? What color sparks are you getting. If they are yellow, or intermittent, then it is the same as no spark. Test the primary and secondary resitance of the coil. If outside specs, replace the coil. If the coil is good, and the module tests good, skip to the punch, and replace the wires, cap, rotor, and plugs. Use OEM wires. The plugs and cap/rotor are less touchy about brand. ut there are a lot of posts about undergrade wires.

She's Alive

Thought I would give all an update. The ignition control module was the culpret. Got it changed out yesterday and she started right up like nothing was ever wrong. Thanks for the input.

Glad to hear. Did you have it tested to determine its fault? I'm assuming that you did, since they are not cheap.

No. I just took it off and put on the new one from Autozone and called it good. I didn't realize they could test them.

I thought I mentiond that you could have them tested. But if that solved your problem, then who needs to have it tested Just keep that in mind. Most domestic ignition modules, and certain imports, can be tested.

jmcgardner,

Glad you found the culprit and are running like new again. Thanks for updating us with your fix.

OK guys, here is my dilema along the same lines. I parked my 93 Aerostar 4.0 the other day. The next morning it won't start. The fuel pumps cycles. I thought spark was the problem so I replaced the plugs and wires. Still no spark, so took the coil pack and the ignition module over to Autozone for testing. Both test out fine. What now? The guy at the store said it might be the EEC relay. But several have said in this thread that if the fuel pump is cycling then the EEC relay is fine. I'm really at a loss here and could use any help you can offer.

Are you getting a Check Engine light? Have you pulled codes?

If you are absolutely sure that you are having no spark, I would suspect that the CPS (Camshaft Position Sensor) or the CKS (Crankshaft Position Sensor) is toast. Without a reading from either, the DIS will not be able to run properly or at all.
