here is what i got off my transfer case id tag what can you guys tell me from this. new process gear syracuse ny model 203 ratio 201 serial 6 3 75 assem no. EDD4TA7A195DD . i'm just looking for general feed back like; shift pattern , hows it perform , and anything important to know.
It is the full-time Np-203 T-case. Its a good T-case...but the down fall is its Full-Time, you can buy a kit to make your front-end part time. It is chain-driven i belive (but dont hold me to that).
lo-loc--lo--n--hi--hi-loc front to back good tcase it is full time there are kits available to make this work like a part time case the weak link is the hi-vo chain it streches and will give a lot of drive train slop then it may break its ok for normal four wheel drive work but hard off roading where the wheels could catch air will shorten it's life considerably
whatever you do, dont drive on pavement with it in the lock position, when i got my 78 F-250 full time 4x4, i had no idea what any of it meant, plus i had no idea the shifter linkage was screwed up......so i drove my truck in the lock position for months, eventually the chain started slipping hear and there, now that i know what the lock position does i feel stoopid for driving it all that time like that because i ruined a good Tcase.....basically with the full time unit, your in 4 wheel all the time(obviously) so the transfer case has its own differential to allow the front and rear axles to spin seperatly but both recieve power, kinda like an open rear diff, kinda....... in the lock position both axles are locked together for true 4wheel(so-to-speak) im personally going to keep my 203 and buy a NP205 and make me a doubler, but thats another story...........
