You have the same problem that most of us with dual tank fords. This should be addressed by ford. This can be a very serious design flaw and we should not have to "just live with it".Gary
Matt, Is there any gas leaking from the tank? Is the tank completely empty when you are filling it up? It is possible that the fill tube going from the cap area to the tank has a crimp in it. A lot of people have had this happen for one reason or another. Most people notice that they can only fill the tank slowly, or it will bubble out. Others can only get so much in the tank. Take a look under the truck at the fill tube and see if it looks crimped. Good luck.
The place that you buy gas is the ground level? I have noticed on the Ford trucks since 1980 that if the filler necks are tilted slightly down hill they will hardly take any gas or none at all.If they are tilted up hill there is no problem I have seen some that wouldn't take gas on level ground. One time I watched a guy drive his truck up on a 4x4 block so he could put gas in it.The plumbing that goes into the tank after the filler neck is too level the gas has a hard time flowing.
I learned a valuable lesson about the filler tube angles and the venting system on Ford pick-ups when I had a custom flatbed installed. I got the truck back from the welder's and was getting ready to head for town, so I needed to fill the tanks. Neither tank would take any fuel and I was spilling more than I could get in. (Gas was over $1.60 a gallon.) I took it back to the welder's and discovered that not only the "drop" wasn't enough, but he also ripped out the inner tubes in the filler necks. "I always do this in the powerstrokes" he told me. Well, we fixed the drop, but I had to custom make the inside tubes from donor pick-ups. They start at the neck and go into the gas tank about 6", the filler neck is a tube within a tube. Without proper venting, you wouldn't get in enough gas and wind up with more on your sneakers. Check the vent and filler tubes for constrictions.
