What do yall think about the new Fusion coming out? I have been doing some research and found that it shoud be a really nice car, and really help Ford sice the demise of the Taurus. From what I have read the Taurus will be sold through 2006 and be dicontuned after the 06' model year, the Fusion will take its place. It has a really nice attrictive look and is very reasonably priced.
I believe Ford has said that the Taurus will become primarily a fleet vehical. Why would the Fusion replace the Focus? I don't know about around there but I see tons of Foci around here. Not to mention the Fusion is much bigger (slightly larger than the Mazda 6). But yeah I myself like the looks and potential performance of the new Fusion. Kind of reminds me of a Prelude, but otherwise it looks great. Not to mention a 210hp V-6 and a 6-speed auto...should be pretty peppy in a car that is significantly lighter than the Five Hundred. They also say that a Hybrid version will be availablen the near future.
The Fusion's not replacing the Focus. I jokingly called it a Ford Malibu, but that's where it fits in the lineup. The Malibu fills the hole between the Cobalt and the Impala, the Focus will be the mid-size.
Motor Trend reports the Fusion is intended to compete with Accord, Camry, and Altima. It would be nice for it to have more ponies to compete with that crowd but the 6-speed auto will probably make up for some of that deficit. Its aim is to be a more emotional, better driving car than the rest, which sounds very similar to the Mazda 6's mission.
My understanding is that BOTH Fusion and Five-Hundred replace the Taurus after 2006. They're going after a large market with 2 cars, instead of trying to be all-things-to-all-people, which is what happened to the Taurus. By trying to satisfy everyone, you satisfy no one. A lesson GM STILL hasn't learned........
I heard that the Fusion will recieve some attention from the SVT team at some point. As it stands now, the base model gets the 2.3L four-cylinder DOHC (160 HP) with a 5-speed manual tranny. If SVT keeps the stick and jacks up the powerplant, it could be a pretty cool package.
Regardless of what SVT does, AWD and Hybrid technology are also in the plans for the Fusion.
I think the Fusion will be a hot seller. It has the looks and should have prety good performnace. I think I will be seriously considering one when they hit the showrooms.
Given that it is essentially a Mazda 6, they could use the same powertrain as they are using in thier MPS (turbo 2.3l, AWD, 6 speed manual).
I would personnaly prefer to see a low pressure turbo on the 3.0l V6, with AWD and the 6 speed manual however.
