well guys its back again.. fixed the tapping problem... turns out it was out of oil, and now it seems that it has some type of firing problem.. it will not start. it has spark, fuel, compression and is in time but will not start all the cylinders are responding to the engine roll over.. i'm undecided if its the timing chain or the pickup coil in the distributor.. any suggerstions would be apprecaited
check the timing to see if chain has jumped. you can spend all day getting fire and fuel and occasional spitting and sputtering with the chain jumped or stretched. any questions on how to do this, just ask and you'll get replies. lol.
351c my mistake.. iwas in a hurry when i posted... and i didn't know it was out of oil.. the dipstick was too short so i couldn't tell if it was or wasnt..but thats a diff story
anyhow.. like i said it gets fire and gas.. everything seems fine.. but the color of the fire is white instead of blue... timing chain could have stretched.. at least i can fix this and maybe make a couple guesses.. and not spend my paycheck trying to fix it like some old CH**y..
Try the coil first, it doesn't take long to check it out and eliminate that from the problem list. I then would suspect my distributor. There are ways that you can check the mag pickup or other components of the distributor.
