Tailgate

I had a JC Whitney tailgate on my '90 F250. It was a real piece of junk that buckled in the middle like the other guys' did.
I eventually chunked it and bought a chrome goose neck gate. Man, if you can get a factory gate at a junkyard for less than $100, that's a steal. They all wanted $200 + around me, if they had one.

I know they SHOULD have been identical, but the 3/4 was definitely heavier than the 1/2.

Tailgate

Speaking of a steal. They have been stealing tailgates off trucks here in central Illinois. Guess there must be a good market for them.

Carlos57 try putting a hose clamp around the bottom pivot on the passenger side the one that lifts off it won't make it theft proof but it does make it harder because you have to totally remove the clamp to take the gate off so if they want it they need a screw driver and some time its not just a drive and grab.

That's a damn good idea with the hose clamp. I never even thought about it, and I've been trying to find a way to make my tailgate a little less stealable for a while now.

CGL, I can't take the credit for this one my dad bought a 92 lariat it was 2 weeks old and somebody grabbed the tailgate so when he put another one on $1100.00 at the time he put the hose clamp on just figured it would slow them down and maybe they would leave if it wasn't just a lift off gate.
