I just got a '93 F1450 I-6 AT 2wd in need of what i think are radius arm bushings. is the radius arm the long bar that holds the front of the suspension to the frame at the floor pan area? uses large donut style bushings. any tricks to replacing them? does the front suspension have to be hanging free? just one side at a time? any info would help. links to suspension diagrams/blow-ups? haven't bought a manual yet. thanks for your time, jeremy
There are a couple ways to do it. Ford's way is to suspend the axle, remove the wheel, disconnect the spring and shock(s), drop the axle pivot bushing at the other end, and then undo the radius arm bushing. You'll also want to replace the axle pivot bushings at the same time, because if the radius arm bushings are shot, so are they.
There are other ways to remove the radius arm bushing, including torching the rivets off, cutting them off with an angle grinder, air chiseling the heads off, and drilling them out.
Your choice.
Oh, when you put them back together, use grade 8 hardware if you've taken the rivets out.
