I purchased an 05 dually 4x4 in November. Was wondering if there's a silencer ring inside the turbo that can be removed. I have a 99 dodge cummins and i removed the silencer ring and it gives that turbo a really cool whine when you step on it.
This turbo is pretty whistly even stock, because of the way the variable vanes move around to keep boost in the best spot for the condition! If you have to have it louder, you can open your back window (the low cost option), or go with a bigger exhaust with fewer non-pipe parts in it (the expensive option.)
Since you have an '05 you may not get to experience this (I think they had sorted out the problem by then) but if you ever have an intercooler tube blow off, the whistle gets *really* loud!!! Like you can't even hear yourself think when accelerating. Of course it's so loud because all that boost is going out under the hood rather than into your intake, so the truck will barely get out of its own way...
