All,
Have a friend who has a 99 PSD with a chip and his turbo light keeps going on when he gooses it. Must be having brain fade becasue I totally forget what the issue/reason is. He has no guages and the shop he got the chip from told him not to worry it means nothing...... Ideas???
First, I'd highly recommend to tell your friend to get some gauges.
I don't know of any "turbo light".....with chips you'll often get "Service Engine Soon" lights. Most often cause is from overboost.....solution would be to install a regulator in the MAP line, making sure it's installed between where a turbo boost gauges gets installed (if he T's into the MAP line) and the MAP sensor. A lot of the diesel shops sell regulators already set up to install in the MAP line.
I'm not saying that is the cause, but that that is the most common with chips. Without pulling the codes it's hard to know for sure. If he had gauges and knew what his max. boost was then he'd know if that's what the light is from.
Thanks DCS, after another conversation he said it is a "boost light" that comes on. Now he says his truck is not running quite right, kind of sluggish. Told him that whoever informed him that running a chip WOT with trailer and ignoring the boost light was ok was definately smoking something funny and he may have done some damage to the turbo....
there is no "boost light" either, as said before it would be the "service engine soon" light. and if he ran at WOT while pulling a trailer with a chip he could very well have damaged the motor.
