Is there an actual computer chip in the Banks Git-Kit? If I am changing out the IDM do I have to replace the chip also? How can I bypass the Banks? There is a vacuum operated actuator that has a rod connected to something behind the turbo charger. If the Banks chip is causing the problem with the IDM then I have just bought a $249 paper weight.
Can anyone shed some light on what the Banks performance thing is and what the actuator does? And am I going to have to change out a chip?
That vacuum operated actuator you are discribeing is your wastegate actuator. That will have nothing to do with anything else, it just replaced the stock one. On the whole tuning thing, I really dont know.
Well that actuator is labeled with a Banks Performance label so I thought it was part of the set up. There is no chip in the IDM. It's just a single board with factory installed, surface soldered, chips and components.
...and just for reference, it's not the WG actuator runs off pressure, not vacuum. When the PCM wants to open the WG, it uses pulses of pressure to open it. You can kind of feel it if you pull it when the truck is running an put your thumb over the boot.

Banks makes an upgraded wastegate actuator called a "Big Head". That's probably what you have. Does it look like this:
That's it! I got on the phone to Banks and spoke with someone there. I told him what I was doing and about my concerns with the "chip". Turns out someone has stolen my chip. It also turns out that I have a Banks system included intercooler, exhaust etc. He said that I had about $4000 worth of their stuff on my truck and it is just going along for the ride. New chip has to be ordered and flashed for the new computer. $450 or so for that. Even at that, if I do the chip and with my new IDM I still have spent less than the dealer wanted for just the IDM!
I agree with Jorge, Call jody at DP and get the F-5. you have the supporting mods (larger IC, exhaust, intake, big head WGactuator) non of that stuff needs or uses a chip to run it, but with the combination of all and a much better tune from Jody, you will be grinning from ear to ear. and like Jorge said its about $400 to $450 depending on how many different power levels you have Jody put on the F-5.
