92 F-150 Front bumper replacement - tips needed

My truck and a Honda had a little meeting in an intersection about 2 years ago. I want to replace the bumper now. Can anyone give me any tips on this? I thought I might go to the junk yard and take a good one from there.

- I am looking for tips for removal and install.

- I am worried about that the impact may have made the job too hard for a driveway mechanic.

- Are the pieces / parts I should get new from a parts store even if I manage to get the bumper from the junk yard?

Thanks

How damaged is the bumper? I believe those years had a crumple zone built into the frame and depending on how hard it was hit you may need to make sure the frame is alright.

I had it aligned at a really good shop about 1 yr after. He was happy with it. I had it aligned again just a month ago. I'm not sure the second guy would have looked for it. But, the first shop works on straightening frames and what not. It was probably about a 35 - 40 MPH (cumulative) head on. No injuries. It sounded like someone hit a chain link fence pole with a metal bat. The left side of the bumper is dented in. But, there is no unusual wear on the tires. So I think the frames is OK. It really only got the bumper. The rest of the body was untouched.

(The Honda had to be towed away. It was leaking several kinds of fluid. That intersection is, I learned, notorious for accidents during snow storms.)

Anyone, anyone, ... Bueler, Bueler... This is one of those jobs I would hate to get 1/2 way through. The state takes a dim view of a bumper-less truck. I also hate having it towed to a shop. It's like admitting defeat.

I'm here looking for similar advice (97 F150) so take this FWIW - If the mounting brackets and braces are ok, it should be easy. I took my bumper off on the side of the road at the accident site because it was rubbing the tire (didn't want to get a tow). One of my brackets is damaged so I'm trying to figure out how to correct that (mine are welded on). Good luck!
