Question new motor

Looking for any info. Have a 97/98 f150 supercrew longbed 4.6 triton xlt. about 160k. Want to redo motor and tranny to deal w/ hauling concrete pump and trailers. love this truck, please do not recommend a 250 or 350. What is the best heavy duty motor and trans I can swap out with this body ??? Any help is appreciated./

The 5.4 is a good engine. Long stroke. Mine tows 7,000lbs pretty good. The 4R70W is a good tranny, with a good cooler on it, it should work fine. You would need a donor truck so that you would have the correct wiring harness, computer, exhaust Y-pipe etc. The 5.4L block is taller and wider than the 4.6L. Also, if you get a 99 or newer, it will have the PI heads and have more power 260hp and 350lb/ft of torque. Also, lower gears like 3.73 or 4.10 will help alot too.

I second the 5.4, but if you can get a 4R100 trans, it would be more suited to your application I think. The gear swap is also a really good idea.
