Grass in pond

The pond at my house has grass or weed (kind of looks like sea weed) that grows up from the bottom. It will then start to float throughout the pond. I love to fish in this pond but my lures get tangled up in this stuff and makes it no fun. It did not start this until a couple of years ago. Is there any type of chemical treatment to take care of this problem. I have used copper sulfate but not much look.

Sonar herbicide is what is being used by the corps of engineers on Lake Seminole in SW Ga. to control weeds in the spring creek area. It is expensive but relatively safe if used properly and EPA approved.
