Speaker question

I'll be changing my speakers out soon and I'm looking for some opinions on what to get. I have a Kenwood Excelon X815 head unit and I'll be running the four speakers on a 4 channel Pioneer amp that puts out 40 watts RMS per channel. I also have the MTX thunderform (built in amp). I was looking at Best Buy because I have a couple hundred dollar gift card but didn't really see anything that impressed me. Circuit City is having a sale, and they have the Alpine 5X7's S series (SPS570A) for $60 a pair (originally $110). They also had the Polk DB570 5X7's on sale and I've heard a lot of people on hear rave about the Polks. Anyone has any listening experience (in the vehicle) between the Polks and the S-series Alpines? Any opinions on these speakers or others (maybe components or 6.5" speakers, etc)? I'm not looking to break the bank, but would like a speaker with quality sound and a good reputation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Polk Audio 6X9's, and I love them. For the money you can't get a better speaker, at least in a 6x9" size. I listened to the Alpines, but I thought they sounded too much like a concert hall, and I didn't like that.

IMO, buy the DB series

Do you have the Polk 5X7/6X8s or 6X9s? Will 6X9s even fit (they're for an Expedition)? Thanks

Watch speaker depth, particularly for the rear doors. Zero excess room to play with.

alas, I only have an S-10 Blazer, I joined the forums since I want an Expy
In my Blazer I've got the 6X9's, that's what the holes in the rear were made for. They sound great though, you can't beat them for the price range. I imagine a 5x7 or 6x8 would sound just as sweet though

Well I decided to get the Polk DB570's after listening to them in Circuit City. Only problem is Circuit City's sale ended so I decided to order from Crutchfield and they aren't having the "buy one get the second pair half off" sale anymore. I guess I'll keep looking around.

I have another question for the experts. Since Crutchfield isn't offering their buy one get one half price, I was thinking of upgrading the front speakers to Polk Audio MOMO Carbon MMC 570 2-Way Speakers and getting something less expensive for the rear (mainly for filler). At CarDomain I can get the MMC570's for $145 and I was thinking I could put Alpine SPS570A's for $60 (on sale at CC) in the rear. Any opinions on the Polk Audio MOMO Carbon MMC 570 2-Way Speakers? Anyway this combo would cost about the same as 4 DB570 speakers but I'd have better sound quality in the front. Any suggestions? Thanks

Pretty much all of Polks car audio equipment is good, the db's are sort of a budget line they came out with, but they did a hell of a job designing them.
Since now you're more worried about rear fill, the Alpines probably would be a good choice. Thd 5x7 probably sounds less like a "concert hall" (the 6X9's did to me anyway), so they should perform good. As far as the Momos, they're a hell of a product. You could always upgrade to a component system, the tweeters aren't hard to install, it's just finding the right place to mount them. You can test that by just taping them onto the door panel or the A-pillar r wheever they could be mounted. If you do decide on components, or want to upgrade to them in the future, these are a very good brand, CDT Audio http://www.cdtaudio.com/vince.htm
Either way, whichever you choose will perform and sound how you want
