As I reported some time ago, I'm in the middle of a total rebuild of my 1963 F100 292. Have sandblasted and repainted the entire front frame and firewall areas. I have been re-building the motor as parts have came back from the machine shop.
I do have a couple questions concerning the engine that I was hoping to get an answer for. According to the shop manual (and the supplemental manual for 1963 model year), there's supposed to be a counterbalance that fits on the camshaft to offset the the weight of the fuel pump eccentric and also a oil slinger that fits over the crankshaft to aid in timing set lubrication. The supplemental manual for the 1963 model year doesn't mention the counterbalance, but does illustrate an oil slinger being used. Apparently, those items were missing from my engine when I disassembled it (didn't know that at the time since I didn't have the shop manuals then). Were these items actually used on the 63 model year engines or am I getting "wrapped around the axle" here? If so, then I can obtain an oil slinger from John's Mummerts website but haven't been able to locate the counterbalance for the camshaft. Any suggestions?
I looked thru my 57-63 and 64-72 parts and accessories catalogs and there's no illustration of any counterbalance. Even the text portion has no listing for that. They show the eccentric (C1AE 6287-A) and a spacer(B7A 6290-A) and the oil slinger (B6A 6310-B). Why not post this question in the Y block forum area? See what you get for an answer. I really don't think there was such an item on the Y blocks. I don't remember one when I diod mine in the 70's.
Thanks for clearing that up for me 312. I was a bit concerned that I was missing a counterbalance. I'll check with my machine shop for a slinger. Thanks again!
