I have a 99 explorer sport. I used the information in previous posts to find and program my keypad entry system. I thank you all for this information. I bought this truck used from a dealer and it did not come with a fob. If I have the keypad entry system on there does it mean my truck is automatically fob capable and all i need to do is buy and program an fob? Or is it that the fob system is completely seperate from the keypad module? If that is so, where would I look to find out if my truck is equipped with this fob module?
I strongly suspect you should have a fob and that you are equipped for it since you have the keyless entry pad on the door. I would recommend checking with the dealer and with a locksmith and be prepared to speak with more than one of each to get the answer you want/need.
Okay.. So if my truck is equipped for an fob, can I just buy any aftermarket fob key and program it to my truck, or is it something I have to buy FORD specific, or is it something that is specific to my truck and I'd need to go to the dealer to have it programmed? Thank you for your reply!
By Fob, I am referring to the little push button remote door lock/unlock device that attaches to your key chain. The key should not have any effect on this. I would get the Ford version. I know the "can" program them. Question is "will" the dealer program them.
If you run through the programming procedure and the door locks react that would indicate that it is equipped for a FOB. If you don't have an owners manual, you can download one here http://www.genuineflmservice.com/default.asp?page=E4 .
And like rangerxlt02 said, go to ebay. There are folks there who have all types of FOB's. I bought a couple of Ford OEM one's around 2 years ago and they were used, but they work great.
Yeah, cheapest way is probably with an aftermarket alarm system. But, since you have a keypad and can program it to work, I strongly suspect that you have a remote reciever.
