I have a 1994 f150 4x4 with the 302 and E40D(i think), manual locking hubs and manual 4x4 shifter. I am unable to get my truck to go into 4x4 low. it goes into 4-wheel hi fine but as soon as i try to push it down and into neutral/4wheel low it wont budge. I have the transmission in neutral and I rolled it a couple feet back and forth with no luck. I also tried taking the rubber boot off and spraying some wd-40 up in there with no luck either. It has been this way since I bought the truck about a month ago.
My 95 f150 has the same sortta problem with the exeption of that i can get mine in 4 low, but it grindes alot and makes other nasty sounds...4 hi is a breeze, so i'll just hope i never need it.
Are you sure you are using the proper technique to put it in 4 low? These things have fooled me before. You have to pull to the side as you pull down. Just a suggestion.
What side do you pull too. in the manual it says to push down (vertically) on the shifter while simultaneously pulling back. all efforts to try this have been futile. i will try pullling it to both sides right now though.
ok i tried pulling it to the side down up, and every way humanly possible and no luck. im thinking im gonna change my transfer case fluid this weekend. that is where the 4 lo gear change takes place is it not??
all you are supposed to do is push down and pull back, so you got that right travisio. maybe you could try taking apart the linkage on the tranfer case and oiling it a little. don't know if that is what you oiled or not, you don't have to take off the boot to oil the linkage just go under the truck to do so.
