OK Mean Green has 188,000 miles and I finally have to bite the bullet and have the tranny rebuilt. Anybody been there done that? I really want to get rid of the typical Ford slushy shifts. My programmer helped but I like neck snapping shifts. I am going with the brazed converter and will probably crank up the stall speed another 500 rpm. I am curious as to what anyone has to say. Oh yeah. I am a newbie here and this is my first post.
If your gonna rebuild that tranny and you work (tow and/or heavy haul) the truck Brians is the way to go. Here is a customer quote from Brians web site
"The BTS torque converter is so efficient that it has the same feeling as the stock TC being locked! When the BTS TC locks up...well..hold on..you are going to go..right then, right now, so you'd better have that rig pointed in the right direction."
Costs a little more worth much more typical rebuild on E40D or 4R100 tranny $2200 to $2600 depending on many factors. New BTS Tranny about $3200
I am saving for mine and when I get the $$ I change. I am not gonna wait for a tranny failure.

My Tranny has 203,000 and the T/C is not locking up the rest of the Tranny is fine and shifts great.
My BTS was born on 3.29.05 and should be here on Friday. Try $3,800.00 Plus shipping and a $1,000.00 Core Charge and Fluid and a new Larger Cooler!! Don't forget Installation all toll it will wind up costing $5,200.00!! From What I here it will be worth it!!

If you setup an appointment and drive to Brian's it's $3800 +fluids & tax installed
I got a friend who has twenty years buikding trannys looking at it now. His first suggestion was to definetly go with a billet converter. I can't drive to Brians it's DRT( Dead Right Thar). I also cannot wait or afford to ship one of their trannys here. I have to work with someone local. I am hoping some people have input as to what internals, shift kits or other mods they have done that would be helpful. It will be in pieces tomorrow and I hope to get it reassembled with in a few days. If anyone has any mods or tips please pass them on. Thanks to all for their input. IF this happens again I hope to be in the position to try Brians out. Sounds like this guy really builds em right.

I don't know... for $5000 and some change, I think I would be inclined to switch to a 6-speed and never worry about it again. But that is just me. I really don't trust automatic transmissions.

THATS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL..!!!
The only regret i have with my current truck is not getting the 6 Speed, next time it will have a 6sp for sure. I like not having to shift, thats nice,, But I know the Automatic is going to fail me, when is the question.!
