I am interested in changing over the rear end in my '91 F150 2wd 351w to a limited slip. I would like advise from anyone as to whether to do it myself as a kit from someplace like Drivetrain Specialists (www.drivetrain.com), take it to a shop for installation, or just to locate a limited slip rear from a salvage yard and do the swap.
The problem is that with the salvage yards in New Hampshire I am having a hard time locating one. Any advice in this regard?
BTW - I am interested in doing this because of the poor traction that the 2wd gets in the snow!
If you have never done this before, I suggest having a autoshop do so. If you don't want to grab all of the literature you can can research it. You don't want to screw up on this type of project. You'll have to almost completely disassemble the differential to do this. However if you get a easy install locker(Powertrax or EasyLok?) you can install these yourself in about four hours and they give you better traction. Limited slips will eventually wear out and you have to use additives with them too. Lockers are better!!!!
