1964 Power steering choices?

HI as spring nearly here in New Hampshire, time to play;has anyone used fat man fabrications steering pun as a way of adding power steering? or am I (with my 1964 F100 Y8 floor shift) going to have to use a ram assist? ANd how do those things work?
Thanks in advance

2WD or 4WD? Where in NH? Im on the seacoast....there are many posts about power steering upgrades in this forum. I have yet to see anyone post a start to finish upgrade for a 64 four wheel drive. I have some thoughts I am kicking around but wont get to that until end of summer, maybe end of fall. Let me know what you find out...

If you do have a 64 non-molested, you are in same situation as I am. The Gemmer steering box is integral with the steering column, does not split at firewall with rag joint etc as they do 65 and up. In 65 and up, the bottom of the column protrudes above the floor to firewall seam, 64 is below, which makes things a little more challenging. In my case I am upgrading to front discs via installing a whole "new" front axle, and this in turn will have me working on the steering upgrade from there. At the moment I am considering different options I have seen on this forum, also thinking about electric steering option, using the original gemmer box, but not so sure about that yet because spare gemmer boxes don't grow on trees.

I'm working on this now. The 64 steering column is very difficult to find. I ended up buying one from some guy, and the shaft was bent. I'm now going to attempt to use a 67 column with the 64 box, connecting them with a Heidts' u-joint. I'll be taking pictures as I go.

Edit: Oh, I'm staying manual, so this probably doesn't apply. sorry.

1961/64 F100/250 2WD steering column is the same. The one piece steering shaft (3524) goes directly into the box.

1965/72 F100/250 2WD, 1967/72 F350: The steering shaft and flange connects to the input shaft of the steering gear w/a rag joint.

So, how in the world can you use a 1967 gear box w/a 1961/64 steering column since there's no separate input shaft on these trucks?

I'm cutting the 64 shaft about 3 inches above the box, and using a rag-joint to connect to the 67 shaft. it's going to be awesome (or incredibly dangerous, one of those two things).

edit: you had it backwards. i'm not using the 67 box with a 64 shaft. i'm using a 64 box with a 67 shaft.
